REVIEW

★ ★ ★ ★ ★

Honestly, the star rating for this 60-minute sketch show from Winnipeg quartet Hot Thespian Action is almost a foregone conclusion.

Over the years, the über-talented troupe of Jane Testar, Ryan Miller, Garth Merkeley and Shannon Guile (original member Jacqueline Loewen departed a few years ago) have unfailingly delivered sketches that use mime, music and knife-sharp wit to hilarious effect. So when you put together a collection of classics from over the last 12 years (you can vote at hotthespianaction.com/fringe) it’s a sure thing.

The show changes nightly, depending on fan voting (“It’s a nightmare for us, but Netflix for you,” Miller joked) but highlights include an impeccably choreographed war between love and lust, an unusual online date, an infomercial for a service that helps your parents with technology (Testar’s face as she realizes she doesn’t have to sign her name to texts is priceless) and Miller’s tour de force as a bird of paradise in a nature doc.

It’s cerebral, it’s silly, it’s bizarre and it’s guaranteed to make your face hurt from laughing.
